-Girls Basketball: D2 State Finals – #1 Medfield defeats #6 South High 62 to 20
For the 2nd straight season in a row, Medfield Girls Basketball defeats South High in the D2 State Championship. South High ends their season with a record of 19 and 5 while Medfield captures the State Championship and finishes with 23 wins and 2 losses overall. Last season at the very same location (U-Mass Lowell Tsongas Center), Medfield took down South High of Worcester by a final of 48 to 42.
In Medfield’s 62 to 20 win over South High on Saturday, March 15th, Junior captain Izzy Kittredge dropped a game-high 28 points and also had 10 rebounds. After a 19 to 13 1st half, Medfield absolutely dominated the 2nd half outscoring South High 43 to 7, 21 of the 28 points from Kittredge came in the 2nd half. South High failed to get consistency from the field while Medfield dominated the boards and took control of the game early in the 3rd quarter. Freshman, Abby Broderick & Junior-Captain, Tess Baacke also added 10 points each during the game for Medfield while Senior, Jailen Annigeri netted 7 points. The Medfield starting five over the last 2 seasons has proven that you never know who will step up any given night and much to the dismay of the TVL and D2 field, the majority of the core will stay together next season as Medfield will only lose 2 seniors from this years roster. The 42 point margin of victory by Medfield is the most in Division 2 Girls basketball history breaking the previous biggest point differential of 38! In the last 20 seasons, Medfield Girls Basketball has now captured the D2 State Championship in 2017, 2024, 2025.
