Former Ashland High School & Ashland Legion pitcher Shawn Babineau had quite the high school & legion career. He now attends Springfield College, pitching for their baseball team in the spring. Once spring turns into summer, it’s time for many college players to join a summer collegiate team and Babineau is no exception. He signed with the Worcester Bravehearts of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) this off-season and is off to a great start.
Serving as their Opening Night starter on May 30 vs Nashua, he threw 6 no-hit innings and faced just one batter over the minimum, walking one and striking out eight. The Bravehearts pitching staff threw a combined no-hitter en route to a season-opening 5-2 win.
Babineau was most recently on the mound this past Saturday night vs Brockton and was once again flat-out dominant. He hurled 7 scoreless innings, yielding two hits while walking one and striking out ten batters. The Bravehearts blanked the Rox by a 4-0 final.
In his two starts thus far, Babineau is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has pitched 13 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while fanning 18 batters. Sheer dominance, to put it mildly. If his first two starts are any indication, FCBL teams figure to have a rough go of things when Babineau is on the mound this summer.
