Medfield Girls Lacrosse Wins 2024 Division 3 MIAA State Championship!

#1 seeded Medfield Warriors held off #2 Newburyport in the Division 3 State Championship to capture the 14 to 10 victory at Burlington High School on Thursday Night (6/13). Medfield finishes their State Championship winning season with a record of 22 and 3, runner-up, Newburyport finishes 20 and 3. Medfield Varsity Girls Lacrosse captured their 2nd straight title in the past 3 seasons.
The Warriors last took home the ultimate prize in 2022 with an 11-9 win over Cohasset.

Game Summary: Senior Captains, Kelly Blake and Alex Proefrock helped lead the way in the State Title game. Proefrock netted a game-high 4 goals while Blake chipped in with a hat trick and 3 assists. (Kelly Blake will be attending Boston College next year, BC won the NCAA Girls Lacrosse title this year with a 14-13 win over Northwestern in the NCAA Championship game). Junior, Kendall Herrick also pitched in with a hat-trick for Medfield.

After Newburyport tied the game at 3-3 with 7:48 left in the 2nd quarter, Medfield would net three goals to close out the half and lead 6-3 at the half-time break. The 3-goal surge to close out the 2nd quarter included a Kendall Herrick (JR) score with 35 seconds left.

After Newburyport made it a 6-5 game within the first 90 seconds of the 3rd quarter, Medfield struck back! Senior Captain, Alex Proefrock netted 2 goals and Michaela McDonald (JR) added another with 5 seconds left in the quarter. Medfield led 12 to 8 heading into the 4th quarter.

During the final quarter both teams would net two goals a piece and the Medfield defense was able to hold the lead and capture the 14 to 10 State Championship Win! Medfield Head Coach, Mary Laughna captures her 2nd State Championship during her 5 year tenure with this years TVL-Large Champion, Medfield Warriors. Laughna left her JV Coach position with Westwood and took over as Medfield Head Coach in 2019.

The Medfield Boys Lacrosse team will try to take the D3 State Championship on the Boys side versus #2 seeded Scituate.
