Westwood Boys Basketball Defeat Holliston to Even Season Series

Last night the 10-2 Holliston Panthers basketball team visited the 11-3 Westwood Wolverines in an epic TVL matchup. Earlier in the season, Holliston beat Westwood at home 75-71 in a high scoring affair. 5 weeks later, the Wolverines were looking to get revenge.

Westwood’s tough defense and great shooting from junior forward Nick Anderson helped the Wolverines jump out to a big lead early, ending the 1st quarter 17-2. They were able to extend that lead into the 2nd quarter before Holliston began chipping away at the deficit and stealing some momentum away heading into half time led by junior guard Dylan Kasarjian.

Holliston was able to keep that momentum after the break with a strong effort by sophomore guard Spencer Arronson on both ends of the court, helping them to win the 3rd quarter 12-6, cutting Westwood’s lead to 45-27. However, the 4th quarter was owned by Westwood and junior guard Reed Wilson as they dominated the high scoring period 26-12, completing Westwood’s revenge victory over Holliston with a final score of 71-39.

Westwood (now with an overall record of 12-3) had 10 players score, including 3 in double figures with Reed Wilson’s game high 19 points, Nick Anderson’s 17 points, and 13 points from senior captain Aidan Fitzgibbon. Holliston (now with an overall record of 10-3) had 2 players in double figures, combining for 28 of the team’s 39 points. The Panthers were led by Spencer Arronson’s team high 17 points and Dylan Kasarjian’s 11 points.

With the win, Westwood now brings themselves up into a tie in second place of the Tri-Valley League standings with Holliston and Medway, all 3 with a divisional record of 10-3 in the TVL, and sitting a half game behind the current first place team and last year’s TVL Champions, the Medfield Warriors with a 10-2 TVL record. Holliston, Medway, and Westwood all get one more crack to take down 1st place Medfield this season, setting up a very exciting final few weeks of the regular season with all 4 teams battling to be crowned the TVL Champs.
