The championships won by Tri Valley League teams in MIAA tournaments this Fall may be unprecedented in the history of the league, or even in the state. The championships include a state title for Hopkinton golf, sectional titles for Hiller football and girls volleyball, sectional titles for Millis girls soccer and football, cross country sectional titles for Westwood girls cross country and Bellingham boys cross country, and Medway girls soccer plays in the south section finals on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
All of these teams will be competing for state titles over the next two weeks, and what makes all of this even more impressive is that this same Tri Valley League also boasts 4 of the top 10 academic high schools in the entire state of Massachusetts. In a list published annually by U.S. News & World Report (https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/massachusetts), Hopkinton High School ranks #3, Dover-Sherborn is #4, Medfield High School is #5, and Medway High School is #10.
When you consider that none of these schools has a graduating class in excess of 300 students–and also realize that some of the smaller schools only have 500 or so students in the entire school–the percentage of high achieving students participating on these wide ranging teams is incredibly high. In the TVL competition is fierce across all the sports, and its teams have had a great run of coming out on top, but the run of success on the academic side has been even more impressive!
