Interviews with Medway Head Coach, Mike Coppinger and Starting Pitcher, Seth Coppinger
Bellingham started things off with a manufactured run as Sean Rebello stole 2nd and later 3rd after hitting a single to start off the game. Mike Farrell hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Rebello. The Mustangs struck right back on the bottom of the 1st as Tyler Mohanan hit a single to drive in leadoff hitter Jeff Wenzel who was hit by a pitch to start off the bottom of the 1st.
The Mustangs took control in the 3rd inning as Jeff Wenzel doubled to start off the inning and was knocked in with a 1 out single by Jeff Costello. Tyler Mohanan followed up with an RBI single and knocked in Costello. Joe Downin would also score in the inning after reaching on a fielders choice and advancing on an error and then wild pitch. The 3 run inning would be the final runs scored by any team during the game and Medway took the victory 4-1.
“We did a good job bouncing back after a couple tough losses last week, defense played well, pitchers kept us right in the game and threw strikes.” said Head Coach, Mike Coppinger. Coppinger was impressed with his brother, Seth who had a solid outing on the mound: “first game he battled a little bit with control, he did a much better job today and didn’t give them too many free bases… we got pretty good defense out there, you throw strikes we’re in good shape.”
Starting Pitcher, Seth Coppinger credited the play of the Mustangs defense: “I knew my defense would make it a good game behind me so I got ahead with the fastball and mixed in the curve when I got ahead, luckily didn’t walk too many guys, we had no errors in the game so that was pretty big and timely hitting.”
The Medway Mustangs next host the Sharon Eagles of the Hockomock Friday (April 22nd) at 11am, while Bellingham heads to Millis on Monday (4/25).
