(Contributed Article) Holliston jumps out to an early lead against Medfield and never looked back. With both teams coming off of disappointing home losses last week (Medway over Medfield on Thursday and Hopkinton over Holliston on Friday) pressure was on for both teams to bounce back with a victory to keep pace in the 4 team battle for the TVL Championship.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 7 point first quarter lead over Medfield (19-12), a lead that that the Warriors were never able to overcome. Medfield did a good job of not letting Holliston pull away over the next 2 quarters, keeping the game within striking distance.
But for every run that Medfield went on, Holliston would answer right back. In the 3rd quarter, senior guard Steven Loranger got hot for the home team scoring 9 points from three pointers but the Panther backcourt duo of senior Mike Alibrandi (6 third quarter points) and sophomore Spencer Aronson (7 third quarter points) never let the Holliston lead dip below double digits.
A strong 4th quarter effort out of Medfield sophomore forward Henry Mitchell, who scored 8 of the team’s 14 fourth quarter points, was not enough to pull the Warriors back in the game as Holliston was finally able to pull away and stretch their lead to over 20 points. Holliston junior guards Dylan Kasarjian (7 fourth quarter points) and Ryan Benco (5 fourth quarter points) led the finishing charge for the Panthers as they came away with the 85-63 win.
With the win, Holliston (11-4 overall record) moves into a tie with Medfield (11-6 overall record) for 3rd place in the TVL standings at 11-4 in the conference. Medway (13-3 overall record) and Westwood (14-3 overall record) remain tied at 1st place in the TVL with a conference record of 12-3. Both teams will play again on Friday 2/10 at 6:30pm, Holliston will be home against Norton, while Medfield will be on the road against Westwood.
