#1 seeded Dover-Sherborn Girls Tennis captured the 5-0 set sweep over a very good 19 and 1 #3 seeded Martha’s Vineyard team in the Girls Division 3 State Championship game at the M.I.T. Dupont Tennis courts, Sunday, June 15th to capture their first state title since 2009. The Blue Raiders of Dover-Sherborn finish with a perfect 21 and 0 record and complete their perfect season with a D3 State title!
TVL MVP, Leah Hillis (JR), Mia Griebel (JR) and Sarah Ewing (FR) captured the 3 wins in the singles sets to clinch the State title, Caroline Mahoney (JR) & Grace Makkas (JR) captured their doubles match + the 2nd-doubles tandem of Emma Motley (JR) & Laura Green (SR) put a cherry on top of the win capturing the second team doubles match to secure the 5-0 sweep in the D3 State Championship meet. The scary thing for Dover-Sherborn opponents is that the Blue Raiders will likely return 6 of the 7 starters from this seasons State Championship team next season since only 1 of them is a Senior.
The Dover-Sherborn Blue Raiders were straight out dominating all season long, the Blue Raiders won 14 of their 21 matches via a 5-0 sweep, 5 of their matches 4 to 1 and 2 matches 3 to 2. In their 105 total sets, Dover-Sherborn won 96 of them! The two closest matches for the Division 3 State Champion Dover-Sherborn Blue Raiders were 3 to 2 wins against Westwood (Division 2) back on April 4th and versus Franklin Panthers (Division 1) on April 17th. Dover-Sherborn dominated the D3 State Tournament bracket winning 24 of their 25 playoff sets. The Blue Raiders showed they can beat anyone at anytime under any circumstances and they are now VERY-WELL deserved State Champions!
