It wasn’t easy for the defending State Champs in their season opener but Norton weathered a late surge by Medway to earn a 3-2 victory. Shaun Murphy started the scoring for the Lancers and Ian Pereira would extend the lead to 2-0 with less than 5 minutes to go in the 1st half at Medway. Senior Captain Colin Smith would cut the lead to 1 with a goal just before the half that got past Norton junior goalkeeper Rob Bukowski.
The score would remain 2-1 for much of the 2nd half until Pereira found the back of the net for the second time to get the contest back to a two goal advantage for the Lancers. Medway’s final goal of the afternoon came once again form Smith off a rebound chance from Kevin Roberts shot on Bukowski. Junior Graham Phenegar made 6 saves in his first game in net for Coach Neill Brandon and the Mustangs. They are right back in action on Friday at 5pm when they travel to Westwood while Norton hosts Medfield on Friday at 3:30.
