-Hopkinton hangs on to defeat Westwood 15 to 12
Article by: Tom Nappi
Hopkinton improves to 3 and 4, Westwood falls to 1 and 6 on the season. The Hillers captured a big TVL win over Westwood thanks to great defensive play. While Westwood had just under 300 yards of offense and Hopkinton had about 160 yards, big defensive plays pushed the Hillers to victory.
On the first drive of the game, Westwood drove 73 yards and ate up 8 minutes and 10 seconds of the 1st quarter. (SO) Andy Weeman capped off the drive with a 6 yard touchdown run, extra point was no good and Westwood led 6-0. The Hopkinton Hillers responded on the very next drive of the game with a 75 yard touchdown drive of their own eating up only 2 minutes and 15 seconds. (JR) RB Joe Carrazza capped off the drive with a 9 yard touchdown run.
In the 2nd quarter, Westwood struck again following an interception by (JR) Tom Kane. The Wolverines started the drive at the Hillers 36 yard-line and in just under 2 minutes found the endzone with a 1 yard TD run by Senior RB George Maroun. Extra point was no good and Westwood led 12 to 7.
Another interception thrown by QB Robert Litscher led to a short field for Westwood with 3:29 left in the half, the Wolverines worked up-field all the way to the 1 yard line before a fumble recovery by Junior, Safety Paul Litscher. Thanks to the fumble recovery it remained a 12-7 Westwood lead heading into the halftime break.
The Hillers opened up the 2nd half with an impressive 64 yard drive that lasted 4 minutes and 50 seconds. QB Robert Litscher found the endzone on a 2 yard keeper and the Hillers followed up with a 2 point conversion as Litscher connected with Sophomore, TE Matt Pantera to make it a 15 to 12 game. After the Hillers touchdown drive, the defenses for both teams took over, the Hillers forced a turnover on downs on 3 different occasions and the Westwood defense came up with a 3rd interception and halted the Hillers offense.
Westwood got the ball back with 1 minute and 41 seconds left in the 4th quarter and had a steady drive up-field until Safety, Paul Litscher came up with a game-clinching interception. Junior, Paul Litscher was the HCAM player of the game coming up with the big fumble recovery to end the 1st half, multiple tackles and the game-clinching interception!
The Hillers are next on the road in Holliston for a Friday night 7pm kickoff, Westwood hosts Norwood next Friday night at 7pm.
