Westwood Wolverines Football Wins 3rd Straight TVL Game

After shocking Holliston with a 28 point 2nd half, overcoming a 28-8 3rd quarter deficit to win 36-34, Westwood continued to put up points. On Thursday night they took down a gritty Millis team 36-6 to improve to 3-2 on the season while Millis fell to 3-2.

Westwood started off the season with a 24-8 loss to Hanover and a 30-8 loss against Falmouth. Westwood emerged victorious at the beginning of TVL play in week 3 as they took down the Hopkinton Hillers 39-18.

Next up for the Wolverines in Week 4 (9/30) was a road date with back to back Division 4 Super Bowl Champions, the Holliston Panthers. The Panthers are once again strong and led by last years starting QB Jack Barrett. The Westwood-Holliston rivalry dates back to 1973 and the 2 teams always seem to give each other a good game. Westwood has fared well lately due to Holliston resting their players during the annual thanksgiving game in preparation for the playoffs but shocked the Holliston Panthers and their loud students section known as the “red sea” as they overcame a 20 point 3rd quarter deficit to take the victory 36-34 in shocking fashion.

Westwood continued their offensive success on Thursday night (10/6) with a 36-6 win VS Millis. Junior, Reed Wilson continued his success at QB while brothers Senior, Rob and Junior, Jake Antonucci continued to accelerate the high-powered Wolverines Offense.

The only score in the 1st quarter was a 40 yard touchdown pass from Reed Wilson to his favorite receiving target, Jake Antonucci. In the 2nd quarter Rob Antonucci fired off a halfback pass for 51 yards to Jake Antonucci with 3:12 left. Jake Antonucci scored again before the half was out with 15 seconds left on a 72 yard touchdown pass and caught the 2 point conversion to give Westwood a 22-0 lead heading into the half. Jake Antonucci racked up 169 yards and 3 touchdowns on 4 receptions in the 1st half.

About 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter, Rob Antonucci added on another touchdown for Westwood with a 6 yard run. Millis-Hopedale added a touchdown of their own in the 3rd quarter with a 61 yard pass from QB Bryce Latosek to Brian Espanet. The final score of the game also came in the 3rd quarter as Senior, Dylan Linehan reeled in a pass and took it 46 yards for the touchdown. Jake Antonucci finished with about 200 yards on 6 catches and 3 touchdowns.

(3-2) Westwood will next Host (3-1) Medfield on Friday October 14th 7pm. (3-2) Millis will be on the road Saturday October 15th for a 7pm kickoff against (3-1) Ashland.
