On Wednesday June 7th, the #6 seeded Westwood Wolverines held on to a 2-1 lead in the Sweet 16 round versus #11 Masconomet Regional and earned a trip to the Round of 8. Westwood had a quick turn around after their 4-0 win over #27 Minnechaug in the round of 32 on Tuesday (June 6th). Westwood was able to take 2 games in two days to advance on to the final 8 round in large part due to outstanding pitching performances by Senior, Dan Sullivan and Junior, Elliot Harris. In the round of 8, 15 and 7, 6th seeded Westwood will be visiting 3rd seeded 15 and 7 King Philip out of the Hockomock League on Saturday, June 10th at 2pm.
D2 Round of 32: #6 Westwood defeats #27 Minnechaug 4-0
Senior, Dan Sullivan pitched a complete game shutout versus Minnechaug in the Round of 32, giving up 5 hits and striking out 5. (C) Jon Bertone (FR) went 1 for 2 at the plate with a walk and scored 2 runs, (1B) Sean Garvin (SR) was 1 for 3 at the plate with a run, (DH) Stephen Zeuthen (SR) was 3 for 3 at the plate and drove in 3 runs. The games MVP was (P) Dan Sullivan (SR), who also contributed 3 hits and 3 RBI’s in addition to pitching the complete game shutout!
D2 Round of 16: #6 Westwood defeats #11 Masconomet Regional 2-1
On Wednesday June 7th, Junior, Elliot Harris delivered a complete game gem of a pitching performance versus Masconomet. Harris went all 7 innings giving up 1 run and 3 hits while striking out 6. In addition, Harris went 2 for 2 at the plate and drove in a run. (2B) Dan Sullivan (SR) went 1 for 2 at the plate, scored a run and drove in a run while (C) Jonathan Bertone (FR) went 1 for 2 with a run, (SS) Kevin Hurley (SR) also went 1 for 3 at the plate.
