Friday Night Rivalry

Hopkinton & Ashland meet for the 95th time on the gridiron this evening. They have met every Thanksgiving since 1923, with the exception of 1940. This is the first ever meeting in the modern-day “regular season” between the two schools.

Hopkinton has 51 wins in the series, Ashland has 38 and there have been 5 ties.

Last time they met: November 23, 2017

These two teams met last Thanksgiving, like they do every year. Hopkinton defended their home turf with an 11-7 win, their first win over Ashland since 2015. Ashland staged a 17 play drive and had the ball on the Hopkinton 3 yard-line with 1:02 remaining in regulation, but the Hillers made a goal-line stand to seal the victory. Connor Hebert recorded two safeties in the victory for the Hillers. Ashland’s Jackson Hornung connected with Nathan Sickles for a 96 yard TD pass for the Clockers lone score.

A Look At the Hillers

Hopkinton is off to a 2-1 start thus far, beating Wayland and Norwood while losing to Needham. Luke D’Aloia had big performances in both wins, hauling in 6 receptions for 119 yards against Wayland and 5 receptions for 100 yards last week at Norwood. Ryan Kelleher has been stellar as the QB of the Hopkinton offense, setting the school record for passing TDs in the season opener.

Hopkinton’s Senior Captain Luke D’Aloia is the nephew of current WEEI personality and former Red Sox utility player Lou Merloni.

Star Of The Week

Hopkinton QB Ryan Kelleher was named one of the Boston Herald’s Stars Of The Week last week. Kelleher completed 17 of 21 passes for 271 yards & 2 TD’s in Hopkinton’s win over Norwood.

Alumni Update

Ryan Kelleher’s brother Jake is the starting QB for the Salve Regina Seahawks. He is 44 of 104 for 577 yards with 7 TD & 4 INT. Salve Regina is 2-2 so far in 2018.

Clocking The Clockers

After playing in the TVL Small Division for many years, the Clockers are now in the TVL Large and enter Week 4 at 3-0. Nathan Sickles hauled in two TDs from two different QBs in last week’s win over Medfield, as Jackson Hornung & Dom Cavanaugh split time.

Not The Only Ones

Hopkinton & Ashland aren’t the only Thanksgiving rivals meeting during the regular season this year. Holliston & Westwood met up last week, as did Medway and Millis. In addition to this rivalry game tonight, Bellingham plays Norton.

Super Bowl Droughts

-Hopkinton hasn’t appeared in a Super Bowl since 1993 (beat W. Bridgewater 42-6)

-Ashland hasn’t appeared in a Super Bowl since 1995 (beat Trinity Catholic 30-12)
